Does anybody know any names of dances that Shrine Maidens (Miko) perform at ceremonies?

Posted on September 30th, 2009 by admin

I need to do a Shrine Maiden dance for a school project. I need the name of the dance, what it’s used for, and the actual steps for the project. So far, i haven’t been able to come up with anything useful. If somebody could help me that would be great.

The Miko performance in Japanese shrine is very private and not disclosed in public. The disguise is different.

You must not play desecration of Shinto. That is not same as cheerleader’s dance.

Posted on September 30th, 2009 by admin

I am from South Africa and is thinking of studying in London. But there is no way that I will let my dogs stay in quarantine for 6 months? What can I do?

Under the PETS travel scheme, there are ways to bring dogs into the UK without having to undergo 6 month quarantine – however, there is a lot of preparation involved.

Check the DEFRA website for more info:

Population Rates? (CIA Factbook)?

Posted on September 30th, 2009 by admin

I don’t really understand what some of the rates are for the country Spain in the CIA Factbook. Can you please explain them to me?

Population Growth Rate: 0.096%
Birth Rate: 9.87 Births/ 1,000 Population
Sex Ratio: 15-64 years: 1.01 male(s)/female

The population growth rate basically represents the replacement rate of people. It is based on the death rate and birth rate. For a 0.096% growth rate, this means that the rate of people dying is smaller than the rate of babies being born, thus resulting in a positive growth rate.

The birth rate basically means what it says. 9.87 babies born per thousand people. Finally, the sex ratio shows that there are more males as compared to females as the male to female ratio is 1.01.

I hope this helps.

Posted on September 28th, 2009 by admin

The goals of the New Negro Movement that became known as the Harlem Renaissance were to create a public platform to showcase African American contributions to art and literature in opposition to the racist stereotypes that prevailed at the time. How were African American writers, poets, musicians and artists also able to use their works to promote cultural and social awareness?

The Emergence of the Harlem Renaissance

During the 1920s and into the 1930s, African American literature flourished during the Harlem Renaissance. Known mostly for the emergence of great literature by black authors, the Harlem Renaissance, also known as the New Negro Movement, was a result of several factors. Before the Renaissance, thousands of blacks migrated from the South to the Northern industrial cities as more employment opportunities became available during World War I. Why does Australia say that it has a $1.1 trillion dollar economy when the CIA world factbook say that it is?

Posted on September 28th, 2009 by admin

$674.6 billion? I understand that it would be in US dollars, but $1.1 trillion AU in US dollars is $907.448 billion USD? Also, it says that it is US$822.1 billion on wikipedia. Why so many different numbers?

The CIA uses PPP or purchasing power parity, which evaluates GDP in terms of what it can buy domestically. Using the official exchange rate gives a different number and with the recent fall of the dollar that number can vary from day to day.
