Why does America rank 27th in life expectancy and 21st in infant mortality (CIA Factbook)?

Yet we spend TWICE as much as countries doing better than us in these areas like Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. What is wrong here?
Oh, by the way all the countries I mentioned have some form of government sponsored universal health care.

BECAUSE INSURANCE COMPANIES DO THE BILLING.

The #1 problem with America’s health care system is that it exists to make a profit. Universal health care is a no brain-er, it eliminates those who would profit from someones illness.

  1. Cigar that Bill Clinton Sniffs says:

Blacks get a lousy education and what happens is that their babies/pregnancies don’t get good healthcare because they live in poverty because so many relatives dropped out of school. So, they suffer high infant mortality.

We spend the vast majority of that money on people who are over 80 years old and are about to die in a year or so. So, if you want Gramda to die a bit earlier like happens in other countries, then we should do what other countries do. Me? I like helping my grandma.

Oh.. obesity too. Rosie, Oprah, and Moore are heroes to Dems and apparently role models too.

We spend a boatload of money on illegal immigrants.

Because raping the public to benefit America’s wealthy-elite is only beneficial to that wealthy-elite. The majority of us must suffer hardship.

I think i understand the question and my answer would be do you know what was in your dinner last night? what country did it come from, what hormones were in the meat, what did the meat eat for its last dinner. this all hurts your body and you can pump yourself full of all sorts of drugs, but its not going to help if you dont know what your eating.

    To answer your question;

America has the highest murder rate in the world one (thank you inner city America), and we pay for illegal immigrant health care two (thank you Democrats).

Because we, as a society, have devalued marriage and fidelity. Teens have a huge infant mortality rate and it skews the statistics. Generally, the more moral a modern country is the lower its infant mortality rate.

As far as life expectancy: we’re all fat hogs and are killing ourselves with McDonalds and Wal Mart cheap food. Processed sugar is causing Type II diabetes in young people, and we seem to be unwilling or unable to face the problem.

Due to the inequities in our healthcare system, those who have money or good benefits from an employer can expect quality health care. Those people who have nothing or Medicaid do not get the same type of care and they are often the ones whose children are born with low birthweights and higher mortality rates.

And whenever there is a budget crunch, healthcare is usually first on the chopping block, leaving even more people floundering and looking to subsist on whatever they can find.

It’s because our illegal population is so very high, and we count them in our health statistics. Many of them do not seek proper health care, out of fear and habit.

I am not sure. I have wondered about that. It could be something as simple as lack of good nutrition and exercise.

Also, one must be careful with stats. Some countries do not report stats or fudge them. Also, we have more people than those countries (possibly combined) and a more diverse population. This diversity manifests itself in many ways, and some peoples might be more biologically prone in this regard.

What’s wrong is that you assume something is wrong. From President Truman, I learned the expression: "There are lies, damn lies, and statistics."
Before accepting what is fed to you, you have to look at the stats, who made them up and how collected.

In the US we have 45,000 deaths every year from auto accidents. About 16,000 are shot to death by guns. Drugs are a problem with mothers giving birth to crack babies. Other countries don’t have such severe problems.

I bet they didn’t tell you what the rate of death by cancer is. Because they don’t treat the elderly except by palliative (not curative) treatments. In the USA we don’t discriminate by age like the socialistic programs you are bragging about.

So if you pay your taxes for the medical care (there) all your life while you are healthy but if you get sick when you are 70 you are out of luck…

We could probably take a little bit of the money we spend on wars, and use it for health care, and solve everybody’s problems. Then there’s the layers of administrative and corporate profit that go into your health care bills; my doc costs me more and earns less because I am paying all of his corporate overseers too. And then there is litigation – we have to sue for malpractice because if we don’t, and are left with a debilitating condition, we can’t work and therefor have no health insurance because we also can’t buy it because of pre existing conditions.

The system is totally totally broken, those with no insurance and those sitting around fat dumb and happy thinking all is well with the world because they are okay, these people need to stop yelling at each other, stop denigrating each other, and start working together to actually solve the problem instead of griping about it and using it as merely a political bludgeon.
