How does African music have influences on Hispanic music?

I have a cultural fair in school where my orchestra plays Kum Ba Yah and La Bamba, and I have some extra work to do, so how does African music influence Hispanic music?
Thanks for the answers :)

There is a strong connection; African slaves were brought into areas like South America, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the African music was preserved by the victims of slavery, and came to be mixed with the local European art music. This happened in the New Orleans area, and blues (and jazz) was born, which is a solely American art form.

I feel a great deal of compassion, regret and admiration for these black people; so many died under the horrific conditions, but those who survived remembered and preserved their musical culture.

How come children of African immigrants get treated less "American" than other immigrant groups?

If someone has one parent from Africa they are treated as they are some type of immigrants, and treated as if they arent American. Other people will tell them go back to Africa, and make fun of you for having one African parent. But when someone has a European parent most people don’t even know that, and those people can easily assimilate in the white community. I have an African parents and every one even my teachers always ask me about Africa, as if I ve been there. A lot of people even think I was born there.

i’m a child of african immigrants but i’m from the uk.. so technically I am an immigrant to america now. but many children of african immigrants tend to see themselves differently from other black americans and americans in general, because of the african culture present at home

According to the CIA, where does the United States stand in terms of income inequality?

In other words, how "Socialist" is the US?

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2172rank.html?countryCode=&rankAnchorRow=#

Out of 136 countries tracked by the CIA, only 38 (countries like Haiti) have greater income inequality, while 97 have LESS inequality than the US.

So could one of you nice Conservatives explain how we’re a "Socialist" nation?

The standing of the US in comparison with other countries is terrible. Even though it’s said that the US is one of the richest countries of the world the discrepancy between the rich and the poor drags it to one of the lowest levels
It means that the capitalists are hoarding money and not paying enough to the workers or helping to resolve the problem. People say Obama is a Socialist and I wish he was, but he is just a warmed over liberal. Although many may not like it, Socialism is the only solution to income inequality , peace and Social Justice

Hope this helps

What are some mythological monsters that lure in young maidens?

In alot of mythologies some creatures didnt exactly lure in young maidens they tended to just abduct them. But luring specifically women it didnt really happen often.

There are creatures such as Will o Wisps that would lure people away into swamp lands and marshes to drown. Other creatures would spend time near settlements, learn peoples names and lure them away buy calling them at night. Centaurs would carry women away to impregnate them. But they would take care of the women they take because they died during childbirth, seeing as the baby would kick its way out.

What is the world going to do about white genocide in South Africa?

And what is the world already doing? Why do not many people know about this?

http://www.google.ca/#hl=en&source=hp&q=white+genocide+in+south+africa&rlz=1R2ADSA_enCA342&aq=0&aqi=g10&aql=&oq=white+gen&gs_rfai=&fp=9d71f91454e38b5

Dont believe everything you read in the newspapers – the media loves a sensationalist story… There is no genocide… Again I tell you to look up the definition of genocide:
"the deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group."

We might have things rough as a result of BEE but there is no attempt to exterminate the white population. People that believe that are paranoid and looking for and excuse to hate. There is no deliberate, systematic extermination of any racial groups occurring at all. before using a word try and make sure you know what it means.

Apartheid was nothing even close to genocide with the exception of the banning of certain political parties (which is not the same as exterminating a group of people who have the same political ideals at all). get your facts straight. We might have a degree of reverse racism but it is NOT
genocide.

Aside from the extremists on both sides of the fence most of us can live together peacefully. As a South African I am sick and tired of people being racist and when they dont get what they want when they want it they ALWAYS fall back and play the race card. Black, white, coloured, indian, chinese, japanese etc… they all need to get over themselves and start living in the present.

High crime rate (which unfortunately does affect whites more than blacks simply because whites still have more money than blacks) does not equal genocide. I really wish people would stop making out as though we are on the brink of a devastating race war when we are not. Try to get all the facts – and not from scared little ignorant bigots who leave when things get tough. Try talking to a real South African who is part of the working class and you’ll see that the media makes a lot of statements that are purely designed to sell newspapers.

EDIT: @ Worsjors. Your answer was neither informative, nor indeed an answer to the question posed. Instead of insulting others on here why not try and be a man and have an opinion other than what you are fed through the media? I live here and I know whats going on. You on the other hand seem to have no clue and only ever want to be as contrary as possible.

Why does South Africa get so much bad press in the West?

In the last few years I’ve seen so much negativity in the media in the UK about South Africa, it ranges from gun crime and how dangerous it has become to live in SA or the ever expanding AIDS epidemic. As a South African living abroad I’m sick to death of hearing about John Simpson’s diatribes on how Jo’burg has a daily murder rate as high the deaths caused by sectarian violence in Baghdad!

SA is going through a very difficult period and it hurts to see the huge obstacles the country faces in the coming decades, let alone having to listen to the snooty opinion of the British media on our situation! London (where I live) isn’t exactly that safe either, anyone seen the news recently? Sometimes it feels like the Western media want our fragile democracy to fail.

But my point is how can South Africa shake off all these negative stereotypes and be portrayed in a positive light for a change?
To ‘watzzzup’ I didn’t post this Q so you could expouse your pointless racist views! By Euros I take you mean white people yeah? Have you seen my avatar? That’s me you fool, I’m a white South African, I love my country but I sure as hell ain’t gonna be blamed for apartheid which happened 40 years before I was born! Having been abroad for most of my life I’ve had the had the benefit of not been indoctrinated and as such I have friend of different races and religions over here in the UK, I certainly don’t believe SA belongs to me or anyone else but to all South Africans who just want to live in peace! Please take your racist view elsewhere ‘watzzzup’, you’re no bad than the AWB by saying stuff like that!

South Africa can shake all this off by just popularizing all the good things about them. Believe me, as a citizen of Ghana, i have heard worse stories about Ghana over hear, and we both have to face the fact that even though we have greatly advanced and are trying to end all the violence, the West will never popularize the good as much as the bad in Africa. It is a shame because Africa has a lot to offer, and people’s views are distorted because of what the media outside the country shows. The only way that South Africa can shake off the negative stereotypes is by not paying attention to all the negative stereotypes and working hard to end all the negativity that is in the country, and the media will realize that the place and the people are actually not that bad. South Africa is already portrayed as a positive light in Africa, and if your continent or at least another country knows how really good you are and what you have to offer, then you’re fine. Nobody is perfect, everyone has negative stereotypes, and they just have to work together to make those stereotypes really what they are: negative and false.

How do black people feel about african americans? and whats the difference?

I recently heard that there is a huge difference between black people and african americans. Supposedly its the african americans who are behaving in all the stereotypical manners, such as the crime, gangs, violence, poor public behavior, poor language, making fatherless kids, blaming racism for everything, etc. Is this true? How do black people feel about african americans tainting their image? And how do you tell the difference between the two kinds of people?

THE TRUTH: not all black people are african americans. just like people assume people with chinese eyes are all chinese but some are asian, east asian, cambonian, chinese, veitnamese. the same goes with "black people" there are black latinas, jamiacans, carribean, dominican and so on

My vote for the best is Tokyo Sexwale (Minister of Human Settlements) and the worst (choices choices, so many inept minsters, and only one gets this honour)… is… Minister of Social Development, Bathabile Dlamini.

What’s your take?

Thanks to all who answer.

Worst – Sicelo Shiceka (It is kind of had to pick just one)
