As far as I understand attitudes in African and the African diaspora are very disapproving towards homosexuality and lgbt sexuality. I am familiar with the recently proposed law in Uganda mandating the death penalty for homosexuality, disapproving attitudes in Jamaica and disapproval among some in the African-American community. Has this been passed down from traditional cultures or does it come from Christianity and/or the legacy of colonialism? Are there or was there transgender roles in African societies?
Yes, as an african american i feel like i’m constantly struggling against my own people. This is exactly why i don’t want to attend a black college. I would be pretty surrounded by people who disapprove of me. Not saying that all black people do because i know a lot don’t but still odds are. I have found that white people are usually more approving. But as i live in the south, that really doesn’t help my cause, with racist white people and homophobic black people.
