Iron Maiden – To Tame a Land
To Tame a Land is the closing track on Iron Maiden’s fourth studio album, Piece of Mind.
It was inspired by the classic science fiction novel Dune by Frank Herbert. However, when Steve Harris requested permission from the author to name the song “Dune” and to use a spoken quotation as the track’s intro, his request was met with a stern reply from Frank Herbert’s agent: “No. Because Frank Herbert doesn’t like rock bands, particularly heavy rock bands, and especially rock bands like Iron Maiden”. This statement was backed up with a legal threat, and eventually the song was renamed “To Tame a Land” and released in 1983.

Iron Maiden – Aces High
Aces High is a song written by Steve Harris. It is Iron Maiden’s eleventh single and the second from the 1984 album Powerslave. The song tells the story of a British RAF pilot fighting against the German Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain (1940), the first battle to be completely fought in the skies of the UK. The song topped at number 20 on the UK Singles Chart.
The song was a frequent concert opener and it was usually preceded by “Churchill’s speech”, a part of a famous speech that the British Prime Minister gave during World War II, on 4 June 1940, two days after the French defeat and general retreat from France’s lost battlefield with French and Belgian remaining troops gathered at Dunkerque. Despite being popular amongst fans, the song is rarely played live. It has only been played during the World Slavery Tour and The EdHuntour, Live After Death and Somewhere Back In Time World Tour. A cover version is found on the tribute album Numbers from the Beast, featuring Jeff Scott Soto on vocals, Nuno Bettencourt on guitars, Billy Sheehan on bass guitar, and Vinny Appice on drums. Although following the original schema, the song is clearly marked by Bettencourts distinctive style, and he has added variations on the original guitar patterns in several places. The song has also been covered by many artists including Children of Bodom on the Iron Maiden tribute album Tribute to the Beast and Arch Enemy on the album Wages of Sin.

Iron Maiden – Purgatory
Off the Killers album, Iron Maiden’s second album.
Purgatory was one of the band’s least successful singles and failed to break into the Top 50 in the UK charts. This may relate to the fact that this was their only single released with both a- and b-side already available on album in the same form. An interesting fact about this single is that the original cover art was withdrawn. The band had felt that it was too high of caliber for just a single and requested a less complex cover be prepared in its place. The withdrawn cover later resurfaced as The Number of the Beast album. Ironically, “Purgatory” is among the most recognizable and merchandized Iron Maiden art images.

lyrics:
You walk through the subway, his eyes burn a hole in your back,
A footstep behind you, he lunges prepared for attack.
Scream for mercy, he laughs as he’s watching you bleed,
Killer behind you, his blood defies all his needs.
My innocent victims are slaughtered with wrath and despise,
The mocking religion of hatred that burns in the night.
I have no one, I’m bound to destroy all this greed,
A voice inside me compelling to satisfy me.
I can see what a knife’s meant to be,
And you’ll never know how I came to forsee, see, see.
My faith in believing is stronger than lifelines and ties,
With the glimmer of metal my moment is ready to strike.
Death call arises, a scream breaks the still of the night,
Another tomorrow, remember to walk in the light!
I have found you, and now there is no place to run,
Excitement shakes me, oh God help me what have I done?!
Oooh yeah, I’ve done it!
YEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHH!
You walk through the subway, my eyes burn a hole in your back,
A footstep behind you, he lunges prepared for attack.
Scream for mercy, he laughs as he’s watching you bleed,
Killer behind you, my blood defies all my needs.
Oooh look out, I’m coming for you!
Ahahahaha!
Enjoy!

Nice song by Iron Maiden called “Alexander the Great” from Somewhere in time album. Enjoy!!!
“my son, ask for thyself another kingdom,
For that which i leave is to small for thee.”
Near to the east, in a part of ancient greece,
In an ancient land called macedonia,
Was born a son to philip of macedon,
The legend his name was alexander.
At the age of nineteen, he became the macedon king,
And swore to free all of asia minor,
By the aegian sea in 334 bc,
He utterly beat the armies of persia.
Chorus:
Alexander the great,
His name struck fear into hearts of men,
Alexander the great,
Became a legend ‘mongst mortal men.
King darius the third, defeated fled persia,
The scythians fell by the river jaxartes,
Then egypt fell to the macedon king as well,
And he founded the city called alexandria.
By the tigris river, he met king darius again,
And crushed him again in the battle of arbela,
Entering babylon and susa, treasures he found,
Took persepolis, the capital of persia.
Chorus:
Alexander the great,
His name struck fear into hearts of men,
Alexander the great,
Became a god amongst mortal men.
A phrygian king had bound a chariot yoke,
And alexander cut the “gordion knot”,
And legend said that who untied the knot,
He would become the master of asia.
Helonism he spread far and wide,
The macedonian learned mind,
Their culture was a western way of life,
He paved the way for christianity.
Marching on, marching on.
The battle weary marching side by side,
Alexander’s army line by line,
They wouldn’t follow him to india,
Tired of the combat, pain and the glory.
Chorus:
Alexander the great,
His name struck fear into hearts of men,
Alexander the great,
He died of fever in babylon.
